PLNTFIBER™ & FRUTFIBER™

Did you know conventional methods takes around 10,000 liters of water to grow 1kg of cotton?

The Industry Problem

While Cotton fibres have many useful properties and applications, the world's over-reliance on traditionally sourced cotton is problematic. Traditional methods of Cotton cultivation and processing are water-intensive and many cultivators rely on pesticides and fertilisers to improve their yields, which damages local biodiversity and soil health. Relying on one singular resource also encourages the practice of monocropping. Monoculture plantations (monocropping) weaken the soil, deplete soil nutrients and reduce local biodiversity..We looked to nature for inspiration and innovative solutions to help diversify our material library. Enter PLNTFIBER™ and FRUTFIBER™.

Our Solution

Plant fibers are renewable and inherently biodegradable. By using production waste from the fruit industry that would otherwise be discarded (the leaves), as well as abundant and fast-growing plants, we not only help by offering alternative solutions to traditional cotton but also contribute to the restoration of the soils that sequester carbon.

We're diversifying our range of bio-based materials to help address the problems linked to the worlds over-reliance on cotton. We’ve developed two fabrics that look and feel like cotton, with zero cotton used. FRUTFIBER™ repurposes food waste, turning banana leaf fiber, pineapple leaf fiber and bamboo into a new, innovative fabric. PLNTFIBER™ uses renewable, fast-growing plants such as Himalayan nettle, bamboo, eucalyptus and seaweed—so you can look good and do good.

FRUTFIBER™

Saves agricultural waste materials by turning them into fabric. FRUTFIBER™ is a blend of responsibly sourced bamboo lyocell combined with pineapple leaf and banana leaf fibers—two natural materials that are usually considered agricultural waste.

Key Ingredients

- Pineapple leaf and banana leaf fibers: the natural fibers from the pineapple and banana leaves are by-products of the food industry. After the fruits are harvested, these fibrous leaves are typically thrown in landfill or burned, which can harm local ecosystems and reduce the long-term fertility of the soil.

- Bamboo: a fast-growing, non-food crop that also doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers or additional water other than what occurs naturally. Our bamboo lyocell is made in a closed loop production system that reuses solvents, while saving water and energy. The growth of bamboo also contributes to healthy soils and carbon absorption, naturally helping reduce climate change.

PLNTFIBER™

Made from fast-growing, underrated and underused plants. PLNTFIBER™ is a blend of responsibly sourced and renewable Himalayan nettle fiber, bamboo lyocell, and eucalyptus lyocell embedded with seaweed—four fast-growing plants that do not require pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation.
