Pangaia Comes With Superlative Sustainable Credentials

Self-cleaning T-shirts made from seaweed; puffer coats filled with wildflowers; lab-produced pigments made from a flower’s DNA: welcome to the world of Pangaia, a rising star on the sustainable stage which is bringing the future to your wardrobe.

As well as bio-fabrication being its raison d’être, Pangaia is a collective comprising creatives who have previously worked for the world’s leading fashion conglomerates (LVMH among them), hence the perfect crew-neck, thick grey marl sweatshirts; the flattering taper on its trackpants; and its zeitgeisty slogan tees (made with the Montreal-based creative Raku Inoue).

Its talent pool – based between London, New York, and Florence – is as diverse as the premise on which the company is built. “We are building a new model of leadership that goes beyond an individual… we’re constantly thinking of the balance between science, technology design and sustainability,” says chief brand officer Maria Srivastava, whose background is in luxury fashion. The core Pangaia team is also made up of 90 per cent women, she adds, and not by design: “The company was built on merit.”
