At the end of their life, please return your sneakers to the following address for recycling: Zellerfeld R&D GMBH, Schnackenburgallee 41D, 22525 Hamburg, Germany. Once returned, please send proof of shipping to customerservice@thepangaia.com and receive a code for $30 against your next PANGAIA purchase.

Right now, the only material that can be used with this technology is TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). By using just 1 material for this sneaker (compared to 40+ in a conventional sneaker) we’re enabling a system where it can be recycled into new pairs at the end of its life. We’re working hand-in-hand with Zellerfeld to develop a renewable material that will replace the TPU for a final result that is both waste-saving and not reliant on the use of fossil fuel-derived inputs.

Footwear, depending on its type, is typically constructed with 40+ different materials. This makes recycling extremely challenging and expensive. By exploring mono material options, we're enabling a system where our footwear can be recycled into new pairs at the end of their life. 

The renewable version will likely be derived from a plant-based source, but the formulation is not yet finalized. We’ll evaluate different sources on a case-by-case basis when the technology is available. Watch this space.

These sneakers are incredibly comfortable and can be tailored to fit your feet perfectly by selecting custom fits and cushioning options at checkout.

The upper of the sneaker is breathable, while the sole is splash-proof.

We recommend spot wiping clean where necessary. Only machine wash (at 30 degrees, preferably in a washing bag) if absolutely necessary to reduce water waste.

No, these shoes are not biodegradable, but they are recyclable when returned to the correct waste stream. At the end of their life, you can send them back to Zellerfeld for recycling.

Yes, 100% of the shoe can be recycled. For transparency, when returned, these sneakers will need to be mixed with virgin material to create an entirely new pair of shoes. Zellerfeld is developing the technology to make a new shoe from 100% recycled material, and they’re working on hardware that will enable this. Stay tuned for updates.
