Nylon (polyamide) is the second-most used synthetic fiber worldwide, following polyester [according to the Textile Exchange Preferred Market report 2022]. It is derived from fossil fuels like petroleum, crude oil, and coal, making it a non-renewable resource. The extraction and processing of these fuels are energy-intensive and contribute to environmental issues such as pollution and global warming.

The Problem

The extraction and processing of these fuels are energy-intensive and contribute to environmental issues such as pollution and global warming. Once you’re finished with your item, crude oil compounds, like the ones used in synthetic fabrics, are resistant to environmental degradation, and their incomplete breakdown can release microfibers and toxins as they degrade. Microfibers shed from textiles during manufacturing, use, washing, and disposal.

The Solution

We use 100% recycled nylon sourced from pre-consumer materials such as old fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastics. These materials are cleaned, broken down, and reprocessed into new nylon fibers, which helps reduce waste and conserve resources. Recycled nylon reduces waste, reduces the need for new raw materials, and decreases energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to virgin nylon production. However, recycled materials are not always recyclable themselves. We are actively exploring solutions to address these issues, but they remain complex.
